St. Michael’s Church, Germany:
Michaeliskirche, or St. Michael’s Church, is the main Protestant church in Hamburg, and the largest church in the city with 2,500 seats. Its tower is a landmark of the skyline of the city, standing at 132 metres and covered in copper.
A bronze statue outside the church depicts archangel Michael defeating the devil. The church succeeds two previous churches on the site, and was built from 1647 to 1699. It has been rebuilt after a fire in 1906, and after heavy bombings in 1944. Visitors can ascend the tower (which has a lift) for great views over the harbour.
